Kōkua Not Working in VR / Meta Quest

Known issue: Kōkua (Kōkua XR) may be unresponsive or non-functional on Meta Quest VR headsets.

⚠️ This is a Known Issue We're Actively Working On

Our engineering team has confirmed a bug affecting Kōkua XR on Meta Quest headsets. Kōkua may be completely unresponsive, fail to launch, or stop functioning mid-session in the VR environment.

We know how central Kōkua XR is to the TRIPP VR experience, and we take this seriously. Our team is actively working on a fix and this article will be updated as soon as it's available.

What's Happening

On Meta Quest (Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest Pro), Kōkua XR may:

  • Fail to launch or appear when expected in a session

  • Launch but not respond to voice or controller input

  • Freeze mid-session and stop interacting entirely

  • Disappear from the scene without warning

  • Show the Kōkua interface but not process any requests

  • Work initially then stop functioning after a few exchanges

Workaround

While the fix is being developed, these steps may provide partial relief:

  • Restart the TRIPP app on Quest — Exit TRIPP fully from the Quest home menu and relaunch. This sometimes restores Kōkua XR temporarily.

  • Restart your headset — A full headset restart (hold the power button → Restart) can sometimes clear the issue for a session.

  • Use TRIPP on mobile in the meantime — Kōkua is available on the TRIPP mobile app (iOS and Android) as an alternative while the VR issue is being resolved.

  • Ensure your Quest software is up to date — While this may not fully resolve the bug, running outdated firmware can compound the issue.

Will Standard Troubleshooting Help?

Because this is a confirmed engineering bug with the Kōkua XR integration, steps like clearing storage, reinstalling the TRIPP app, or factory resetting your headset are very unlikely to resolve this. Please don't go through those steps — our engineering team is working on the core fix.
