⚠️ This is a Known Issue We're Actively Working On
Our engineering team has identified a bug on Android where Kōkua does not correctly detect microphone permissions, causing voice input to fail. Additionally, the flick-to-send gesture (the gesture used to submit a voice message) may not register correctly on certain Android devices.
We're working on a fix and will update this article as soon as it's available.
What's Happening
On Android, you may experience one or more of the following:
Kōkua shows a microphone error or says it doesn't have mic access — even after you've granted permission
Tapping the mic button does nothing
Voice recording starts but the flick gesture doesn't send the message
The flick-to-send animation completes but Kōkua doesn't process the message
Kōkua repeatedly asks for mic permission even though it's already enabled in your Android settings
Workaround
These steps may help while the fix is in progress:
Grant mic permission manually — Go to Settings → Apps → TRIPP → Permissions → Microphone → Allow. Even if it appears enabled, try toggling it off and back on.
Use text input instead — Switch to text/chat mode in Kōkua to continue your session without the microphone.
Tap to send instead of flick — If the flick gesture isn't registering, look for a send button or tap alternative to submit your message.
Restart the TRIPP app — A full restart sometimes re-initializes the permission check and restores mic access temporarily.
Will Standard Troubleshooting Help?
Because this is an engineering bug affecting how the app reads Android permission state, clearing cache or reinstalling may reset permissions but is unlikely to permanently fix the issue. If you've already reinstalled and the problem came back, that's consistent with this known bug.
